DCI Opens “Sun Child Daycare & Community Center for Slum Residents” at Kallyanpur, Dhaka

On April 28, 2012, Distressed Children & Infants International (DCI)’s Goodwill Ambassador Babita inaugurated a new DCI pilot project called “Sun Child Daycare & Community Center for Slum Residents” at Porabari Bosti, Kallyanpur, Dhaka. The project is jointly developed and funded by Distressed Children and Infants International (DCI) and BUET 89 Club and implemented by Rights and Sight for Children (RSC). Babita was joined at the inauguration by DCI Executive Director Dr. Ehsan Hoque, DCI Development Officer Ian Burzynski, and BUET 89 Club representatives Anisul Hoq, Mahmud Hossain, and Syed Zakir Hussain. RSC representatives Salma Qadir, Romel Nasher, Rajen Kumar Shaha, and many other dignitaries were also present at the event, and the children of DCI’s Sun Child Home for Orphans attended to perform songs and dances for the attendees.

The immediate objectives of the Sun Child Daycare & Community Center for Slum Residents are to provide daycare support for underprivileged children in the slums, tutoring help for older siblings, and vocational training for parents. The ultimate goal is to increase the income generation capacity of local families and bring them out of the slums.
